i was just looking through the bow list and i see lots of bows compounds that are not using grass as the second base. i tried to compound bows in a while, do these look correct to you guys?

I don't think the alchemical formulas are in black and white. I know for sure that the lower level bows don't require the grass as a mandatory second element. I also noticed that if using primary one ever adds wood+grass you are almost guaranteed a bow instead of a pure wood product. The tilt is AT LEAST 80%. That being said, Primary alchemy has an "instability" factor that has been noted on many a forum post on the main website. This instability factor actually makes it MORE desirable for making certain compounds since there is the odd chance of getting something good that was unexpected. Might spend more money, but might also pick up a crazy item that is otherwise unachievable without Superior+Book(expensive with a failure rating). So, I think checking confirmation is important, but since bows are limited to below rank 14 and we pretty much KNOW how to get a bow, I don't think its a major concern. I would leave the flags up, anyhoo, just to make sure the noobs don't forget the general rule of thumb. |

I agree. Imagine this: if high rank bows can be compounded from wood + wood, curse(d) crossbow should be able to be compounded from propeller + propeller, which means you can compound twice with every piece of Oak you get! Then, curse(d) crossbow should not cost like 20k... or so expensive. The best bow I ever compounded myself is a meniscus bow, propeller + fire boots. And Redman, is it really at least 80% of the time a bow comes out? because for me, primary alchemy 7, it seems bows come out less often than that, and a good bow comes out even less! (That's why I have so many crappy bows, and I sell them for 15G each.) hi hi |

I get ALOT of crappy bows. I mean like a Short Bow for half of my attempts to shoot for meniscus. My primary is up to 11 now, but it has always been that wood + grass = bow. Not always up, but always a bow (80% of the time). I usually get other wood products when compounding wood + other. I did record one notable incident where I picked up a Hunter's Bow without grass (rank 5) but I digress. Most of my Wood + nonGrass = Bow has been Short Bow (rank 2) and we have already attributed that this item is a very easy default product when compounding either wood + other OR wood + grass. |

mmm i'm not sure but i think the real base for bows it wood+ anything but another wood not 100% sure but it seems to make bows from alot of things wood+ something other then wood again someone could play around with that if they wanted lol have you ever ran in circles while thinking

Basically, most of the bow is wood/grass, but according to my theory (not again .. bla bla bla), in short, if x+y and x/y doesn't appear within the compound range it will become x or x/z. That's how I explain those funny compound. Include material that are often used like wolf tooth and black jade. =) IGN: MHong
