For Firewood: If your MDEF is high enough, you can auto overnight at tree devils (they drop food also) for wood. You can either set the remote to discard the others or keep them to sell. For Fresh Water: You can auto overnight at the spiders in the first area of the holy village leader's secret passage way; they drop pure water (which can be compounded to make fresh water) Both of those methods cost no money, and get a decent amount of materials. Vacuum Cleaner, NoMoreFcuk. A thing which you can suck the materials out the collection spot every 5 minutes.

I get sea waters often from Jellyfishes, and I compound: sea water + fish into fresh water, but also into mineral water and pure water. Especially goddess training with Jellyfishes. ^^

Water Desalination is very handy, easier than this does not exist. It beats even alchemy. If I was you, I would build it so fast as possible.
