Do you guys think I should display who created/edited each of the items/compounds? I'm thinking now that this might be a good idea.

How about being able to view all items/compounds created by a specific user.

Then people could check things like what Rawrness has contributed to the site since they know he is trustworthy.

I just didn't want people to start added obvious compounds just to get their numbers up.

I agree it would be a good idea.
If some one starts putting in fake compounds, it'll be easier to find out who it is.
Also, the people who work to check the compounds deserve some credit. A lot of the compounds don't come cheap.

Yea, i can currently see who creates items/compounds...if it is a fake, most of the time though it is someone who has zero posts and has not contributed anything else to the site.

I'm not sure how I should deal with it at the moment. I could always put a temporary ban on the user but then they could always just create another ID.

I think most of the fakes are people just trying to test out the creation system to see how it works, and then realize after that they can't delete their item/compound.

Well, if you can get the IP address of a user, you can ban (temporarily or permanently) the IP rather than just an ID.
And another idea is that who ever puts in a compound should be able to remove it, unless it has been confirmed. That way if some one gets upset, they can't just pull all their confirmed info out.

Yea i could always get the ip address but i think that most fakes are not intentional so i wouldn't want to ban just for that. But, having users be able to edit/remove their own items/compounds might be an options. I just wouldn't want someone like Rawrness going disgruntal and deleting all his compounds!

one more thing is, items have a description or comment field, i think it would be useful for compounds also to have a comment field, in this comment field the guy who add compound can add somethings like this
"Its tested at alchemy lvl 6", or "this is tested" or like "its rare to get this compound" or like "u can use same formula with junior alchemy to get this"...... such comments can be very useful i think

=>the guy who make a compound can delete it
=>but if that guy delete the compound it only hides the compound from website to viewers
=>but actually the compound is still in internal database but it is tagged or marked as deleted
=>hence scott can easily search internal database like very weekend (or when ur free lol xD) to compounds which are tagged or marked as deleted
then u can delete those compounds from internal database if they are fake,
if not fake then easily u can check off delete mark from item hence it'll be shown in website again

=> this way others cant actually delete things they add from database, but they can only "virtually delete" from our view or from website

that's a good idea dotnet. i just updated the items, compounds, and recycles page to show the creator/last editor. i also added the rank difference on the compounds page so you can judge how hard the compound might be if it has something like +4.

i'll get around to changing it so users can edit or delete (hide from other's view like you mentioned) but i have to think for a bit how the best way to implement this is.

as for the tooltip, i'll work on redoing it...since right now it's calling a generic function with only information on the item, not the compound (so i can't show compound info the way it's setup now). but...now that i think about it, i think maybe we want to see who created/edited the item in the main view so people don't have to mouse over every one to see.

yea thats also good but in the future we don't know how many columns will have to be added to main compound view, now also sometimes when there are more than 2 ingredients for a compound the columns are little offset and tables don't look good, but i guess its not a major issue for now until more columns are added in future

yea i'll take another look at the columns. i had a function to add padding so they all matched up correctly but it was causing the pages to hang occasionally since the page takes so long to load now. I'll have to eventually add some caching, since you probably notice the compounds page takes much longer to load then the items and the other pages.

Hey. This is my first an maybe only post here I joined just to say. :) I read about blocking people with spam... And I used to be an admin... And I had some people who REALLY! Needed blocking... And I couln't figure out how either.... But you guys mentioned ip... I had a problem with that... When I blocked an ip I'd end up blocking muntiple people. :( So I'm just saying that might not be the best idea... :( I just wanted to let you know. ^_^ (I found this while trying to figure out how to make a jailer x_x) I hope I was some help. :) And if I'm aloud I'd be willing to pm things I've figured out how to do or make, but I wouln't post them because I don't want anyone to think I'm spaming. ^_^ Okay. :) Goodluck. ;)

yea i didnt say much about ip banning thing because i also have a lot to learn about it but as far as i know now ip ban is not a good way or a logical way to do it, as BlueIumi said it can block multiple users since ip is just a a logical address and the ip address we see is most likely the ip address of ISP router , blocking an ISP router blocks access to website to many other who uses the same ISP router,( basically whole LAN is blocked who uses that router)

my country is a small country and there are only 2 licensed ISP in whole country , so i guess for eg if someone block one of that service provider(must be using many routers though xD) almost half of the country of 300000 population will be blocked aahahhaxD

also using proxy servers a guy who knows what to do can easily avoid ip ban

a much better solution is MAC address blocking since no other network interface card in world is produced with same MAC address, hence MAC address directly determines the computer(NIC card) of the guy needed to be blocked, yet still i think this also isn't perfect

there are still many things i duno about these things lol im just a guy only started learning networking, so i guess my idea may have flaws, and scott being a a more experienced programmer im sure he knows a lot about it hahahahaxD

yeah good idea dotnet. ^_^ It would really stink of you got blocked because one person was stupid right? My other friend was one too she's from a small country that's how I learned my lesson. ;) But the other one sounds like a good idea. :) Always more testing is needed. :P XD But I am willing to help. :) Just don't block me for good. :P We have multiple computers at my house ^_^

ok dotnet, i think i fixed the columns now. I also formatted the main items page and compounds page a little different so stuff would fit better and be easier to read. I also displayed all the classifications on the main items if there are more than one like pbwiki does.

Hey scott, maybe you could have the person's profile list their compounds too?
The profiles look a bit bare as it is ^^; Plus it'd come in handy if you're trying to figure out who's compounds are the most reliable.

I was looking at the compounds and noticed there was an edit option, so I checked this post again to make sure there wasn't a glitch or something after all the updating.

i think its a good idea but IP aresses are sometimes people dont want tracking... IDk

like i said i dont think it's really a problem. people add maybe one or two bad items which are obviously fake. i'm sure they do it just to test the interface and realize they can't delete them after.

but yea, ip banning will not work because multiple people use the same ip address so i could be blocking off a large group of users.
