First, I am sorry about you items. I've been in that situation too so I know how it feels. I'm sorry.

Proof means screenshots or documents or the account/event. Like having a receipt, you need proof of purchase. These days verbal contracts never hold unless you have a video or recording. Or its just another he-say she-say. Even those can still be doctored and falsified.

When ever I make sales or trades or "deals" with people in a game I keep a dated and named folder of screenies I can use later as receipt. Sometimes I will let the person know I've taken a shot, at times I tell them to take a copy as well. This way we have an understanding and no one is/feels cheated.

Also there can be a pay later or pay half now, rest later deal. Try and talk it out in a way where both sides are not cheated if someone "suddenly" changes their mind later.
