If you normally get 10k exp without 2x exp event, then getting 10k exp on a 2x would be a good sign to change your burst pets. That's what I usually do. Others may have their own methods and may differ from mine.
On double exp event, I change pets when the exp of the char I'm bursting is the about the same exp he/she gets without 2x exp.
I think the 2x exp event would be a waste if the exp they get will be the same as when there's no 2x exp.
