I know this is an old post, but what I say is very useful and better than the one you posted (I tested it out).
For pets like xao, sam, vicky, magellan, set the assist skill in second round set on the pet, it is very effective when bursting and comes in handy when bursting. I also wanted to point out that if you happen to have burst slaves bursting with a person who trains a pet like that, it's best to be cautious because burst slaves typically have all str or all int and unless they have a fork or any other +hp item, vicky or sam or xao or magellan might have a chance to set their assist skill on that character. It's ideal to set the skill cast based on the party's hp.
