Basically the Compound section works like this:
1st The question mark means that the compound has not been verified so therefore may not be correct.
The check mark means that the compound has been verified as a working compound.

2nd p = primary j = junior s = superior and N/A = not applicable(I guess)no alchemy skill(according to FencingFoxFTW)(thnx)

3rd The number is the rank jump or drop that the compound has if it succeeds. Even verified compounds do not alway succeed.

4th That is the item you are trying to compound.

5th Those are the items you use in the compounding in the order that they must go into the compounding slots.

I think the N/A means "no alchemy skill", not even getting primary

making some items seems to be easier that way, for example, rank 1 roses

ok i know this thread is kinda repeated but, i have read 1 guy's guide, and i understand it, so i looked up lord gown for an example, but it came up with things that i dont understand. can someone please explain the whole lord gown thing to me? the guide says that the main base (grass) needs to have more total item rank than the second (flower) an third (gold) i guess i want someone to explain to me the maths behind the lord gown formula as it doesn't seem to follow these rules, and also, the main base has to be higher than the 2nd and 3rd, but does the 2nd have to be higher than the third, or? like, does the order have to be grass/FLOWER/GOLD or can it be grass/GOLD/FLOWER in terms of total item rank value?

When compounding the Main base has to be Higher or Equal to the rest of the items in compound. For Example if you were making a Grass/Gold/Flower Item. You could use a Item Rank 29 Grass/Item Rank 27 Gold/Item Rank 29 Flower. To achieve the right bases. The thing to remember is the lowest Item Rank is used as the base Rank. So in the above example the base Rank of the compound would be Item Rank 27.

What you are getting at is the order of the compound. For Lord Gown The compounding Order is Grass then Flower then Gold. The Grass Item has to be equal or higher level and 1st in the Order to be considered the Main Base.

When you use equal Items in Junior or Superior. Which ever Item comes 1st or is the highest rank is the Main base. If you used for example a Item rank 39 Grass/Item Rank 40 Flower/Item Rank 39 Gold to try to make a Lords Gown you would never get it because it will make the Item Rank 40 FLower the Main base as it is the Highest Rank. But if you used Item Rank 39 for each item in the Grass/Flower/Gold Order it would Make the Grass the Main Base because it is listed 1st.
