i want to make a shadow pestle and im wondering what lvl my jr should be and what the likly hood that it will come out if i dont use a book my jr is at a 8 thanks for ur replies

i think you need books for almost everything lv 40+

you dont have to use a book, but it is better.
You could get it without using one, but for shadow pestle i might advise to pop in a book one, to be sure.
