I mentioned this back in Oct '08 before I found out I would be leaving WL for a time. I would like to start this again but I only plan to spend the time to post it if I know it can be added as a searchable category in advanced search for items.
If it can be added I would program a remote to fish for 6 hours then respawn and post the results. I would start this with 1 Character and post each nights results with Current Character lvl, Skill lvl ( Start and Finish), and the Items w/ Quantity and Rank, as well as the Rod used.
A few things I know you can get that will make this worth it: Steel All metal Materials/plates/sands ( gold, silver, and white silvery are previously untested ) All Ores ( Including silver, white silvery, and gold ) Dye All Woods and Grasses Many skins, furs, bones, claws, flowers, leaves, gems, and rocks.
I will start with 47 available spaces and nothing being discarded. Considering 47 spaces tends to fill in 2 hours ( give or take ) I will be sure to list quantities and we can perhaps have a rarity system as well.

P.S. I do believe that no matter your skill level or rod type you can not get items with a rank higher than 10. But as a true researcher (slacker/addict) I will test them anyways.
P.S.S. As a side note I will also be randomly compounding with a hyper cam going so that I can add findings to the compound database :)
I hid the OP so that it would still be here. Thats what that spoiler is. I have decided to do this regardless of a decision to make it a searchable category since it will still help many of you. So here it goes.
Knowns and Unknowns:
Known: There are Three available Fishing Tools each with different capabilities; Simple, Great, and Luxury.
Known: The Rod you use and your Fishing Skill level effect what you can/will find.
Assumed: The Highest item you can fish for is Rank 10
^^^^ Wrong!!! I have previously found Gold Ore (rank 11)
Unknown: The max proficiency for Primary Fishing
Unknown: Does location effect what you can/will find
Partial Unknown: What items can be found by Fishing
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Goals:
- Solve the Unknowns.
- Convince Scott to make Fishing a searchable / filter for the database.

If anyone can think of something that should be added please post it here and I will credit that to you and it to this post.
A problem I have noticed is that the Remote will not respawn you while you are fishing. So I will start keeping track of the time started and time ended to keep an accurate time line.
I have started to record the exact location (X,Y) of each spot I sit the character. Although I doubt this has any bearing I want a record of it so that I can check those exact spots again at a later date and compare the results.
Locations in que are currently:
The Farm on South Island
Korea
Kyoto

lol. I have considered downloading it to see what all the hype is. But I don't feel I need to bot. WL provides more than enough free ways to exploit it self. I figure I can burst manually and make money buy building things or selling syrups.
Wow it is great to see someone is exploring the fishing rods. I have always wondered if the luxury is better than the normal rod and if the fishing skill ACTUALLY does make a difference. Weldone for making this, and I will love to see further outcomes =3
Sorry for the slow updates everyone. I finally figured out what was wrong and the parts are in the mail. I finally ran out of things to sell so I will run 1 fisher tonight.
So far from this I have started to put together an item list of 48 Items that are worth fishing for if you will be gone for a day or two or even a week. So far just from the results I have posted above this is what I have.
Spoiler:
Coal (4)
Copper Sand (4)
Cypress Wood (5)
Aluminum Block (5)
Silicon (6)
Cypress (4)
Hard Aluminum Plate (7)
Pure Iron Block (6)
Iron Material (7)
Bronze Material (5)
Sea Salt (1)
Copper Plate (6)
Silvery Ore (8)
Aluminum Sand (4)
There are of course only 14 items in the list so far. And because I make most of my money from manufacturing I have chosen these items because they can save a lot of time having partially completed materials instead of raw materials.
You will notice that Cypress, Cypress Wood, and Sea Salt do not quite fit in with the rest of the materials. The reason I chose these is due to the rarity of Cypress (The item pools on North Island are wrong). The Sea Salt is chosen because it takes 8 minutes to make it. However once I have a complete stack it would be removed from the list.
the 15th is my birthday. so I will not be on from now until friday. I am setting up a fisher to work for that long. Should be interesting to see how many of each item shows up.
Great job felix, and apparently the dif rods do help vary the outcome. I fished up more steel, hard alu, and gold with lux than the ordinary one you get from welling. ^^.. And guys instead of asking him to do it you should try helping also. BUT..(hint hint)| If you travel around alot you will see that dif spots spout out dif catchings. Example ; China: right outside pier: world map: i left on afk for awhile and i was surprised by the steel earnings. I also got multiple clumps of gold as well. Hmm.. South Pole: good tin spot: spouts out tin block and tin material. Though, everyone will get a dif result. Depending on thier fishing level.
well ill contribute this (even tho its not much) at starter beach there where milestones i did notice: when i hit lv 10 fishing i suddenly started getting 2x as many items with item lv 5+, then again at 15 i started getting 10+ much more frequently (my fisher did nothing but fish and send what she fished up to my main to compound to lv my alch skill)
Sorry for the slow updates lol. Been a long process getting my computer up and working again. Currently I am putting this on pause since I have been given permissions to work on the Monster Database.
Seeing as the monster database is already on the site I figure I should give it a priority. Sorry to all you fishers out there. If anyone wants to pick up this work until I can come back or help me finish the Monster Database so I can pick this up please feel free. :)
