I know a few people have been asking for this so I put something together pretty quick. You can access your private messages under the home menu or http://wlodb.com/pms. I also added a couple other options under the home menu.
There is a little mail icon 
that will popup when you get new messages. If you mouseover the icon it will tell you how many new messages you have.
At the moment there is no way to delete the items in your outbox since at the moment this would also remove the item from the recipient's inbox. I still have to think a bit to see how I want to handle deleting messages.
The layout is pretty basic for now. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Maybe you can set a maximum amount of pm's per inbox, so it won't hog up a lot of memory overtime. But then you would also have to set it up so a person would be informed when they try to send a message to someone with a full inbox. But if you do that, you need to make it so that a moderator (such as yourself) can overwrite that and send a message to a full inbox. (That way some one can't fill their inbox to avoid getting messages from an mod telling them to 'please stop adding fake compounds' etc.)

kazura: i'm not really too worried about space at the moment. the private messages are about the same size as a post so i don't think it will be an issue.
